What We Do

Why choose to volunteer with Community Nursing Hospice Care?
Some volunteers want to help others, some want career experience, and others benefit most from friendship. Whatever your reason, there are many benefits to being on our volunteer team. As a UPMC volunteer, training programs are provided to ensure you are prepared for your assignment and ready for a rewarding and meaningful volunteer experience.

The scope of our Hospice services includes skilled nursing, spiritual and bereavement support, and volunteer services, among others, for patients with terminal illness.  These services are provided with the goal of maintaining patient comfort and maximizing quality of life.  Volunteers provide companionship, spiritual support, and are a valuable part of the hospice team.

Bereavement Volunteers are trained to help a family who are grieving the loss of a loved one through making phone calls, sending letters and cards, and making visits.  This assignment is flexible, and can usually be done from your home.

Home-visit Volunteers - Provide companionship and socialization by visiting with patients. Play card games, read, or enjoy conversation together.  Home visit volunteers also provide a chance for the caregiver to take a break, go shopping, watch a movie, etc.

Special Project Volunteers - Help our patients by providing Memory Bears, lap blankets, crafts, and preparing gift packages for holidays.  This is a great opportunity for groups! Share your talents to help others.
